چکیده

Research in computational linguistics, computer graphics and autonomous agents has led to the development of increasingly sophisticated communicative agents over the past few years, bringing new perspective to machine translation research. The engineering of language-based smooth, expressive, natural-looking human gestures can give us useful insights into the design principles that have evolved in natural communication between people. In this paper we prototype a machine translation system from English to American Sign Language (ASL), taking into account not only linguistic but also visual and spatial information associated with ASL signs. Statistical Sign Language Machine Translation: from English written text to American Sign Language Gloss

This works aims to design a statistical machine translation from English text to American Sign Language (ASL). The system is based on Moses tool with some modifications and the results are synthesized through a 3D avatar for interpretation. First, we translate the input text to gloss, a written form of ASL. Second, we pass the output to the WebSign Plug-in to play the sign. Contributions of thi...

Bidirectional American Sign Language to English Translation

In the US alone, there are approximately 900,000 hearingimpaired people whose primary mode of conversation is sign language. For these people, communication with non-signers is a daily struggle, and they are often disadvantaged when it comes to finding a job, accessing health care, etc. There are a few emerging technologies designed to translate sign language to English in real time, but most o...

The Intersemiotic Study of Translation from Page to Stage: The Farsi Translation of Macbeth for Stage Adaptation from the Perspective of Peirceʼs Model

Intersemiotic translation, which can happen in the process of the translation of drama for theatre, can turn more complicated when the verbal sign system of drama has already undergone interlingual translation. The purpose of this study is to find the intersemiotic changes of translation from page to stage and to show the changes of indexical, iconic, and symbolic signs in the process of inters...

A Multi-Path Architecture for Machine Translation of English Text into American Sign Language Animation

The translation of English text into American Sign Language (ASL) animation tests the limits of traditional MT architectural designs. A new semantic representation is proposed that uses virtual reality 3D scene modeling software to produce spatially complex ASL phenomena called “classifier predicates.” The model acts as an interlingua within a new multi-pathway MT architecture design that also ...

A Hybrid Machine Translation System Based on a Monotone Decoder

In this paper, a hybrid Machine Translation (MT) system is proposed by combining the result of a rule-based machine translation (RBMT) system with a statistical approach. The RBMT uses a set of linguistic rules for translation, which leads to better translation results in terms of word ordering and syntactic structure. On the other hand, SMT works better in lexical choice. Therefore, in our sys...
